Our family zooms every Sunday night. By ‘Our Family”, I mean my sons and their wives and me.
Last week we all agreed that the traditional gathering around the yuletide tree and beaming at each other on Christmas Eve just wasn’t cutting it anymore. We need something different.
Last year with did an Amazon Christmas, with each of us listing items that we wanted for under a total of $200. This worked well because I got all kinds of stuff that I actually wanted. And I knew what to buy other people. Of course, parents added more for their child.
But this year we decided to go somewhere for Christmas as an experience instead of gifts.
Two branches of the family live in Florida, one in Pennsylvania. My first thought was The Bahamas, a beach summer site. Everybody frowned. They were beached out.
Someone suggested Hawaii. Dead pan reaction. No enthusiasm there.
Possibly the Dominican Republic. No looks of joy on that idea either.
Then came the idea of the Grand Canyon, which few of us have experienced. This elicited some interest and a bit of twinkle. Maybe we can add Los Vegas to it? More interest.
Hmmm
What else? Any other ideas? Mike said, “Icelalnd.”
Now all faces lit up. Wow, Christmas in Iceland.
Now two sites are being researched. Grand Canyon and Iceland. Any way it works out, this Christmas will be one to remember.
My family is great. Full of adventure and ideas. I love them very much.
