A few weeks ago, when it was 94 degrees day after day, I put on a colourful Sydney dress and boarded a public bus in Fort Lauderdale. A Sydney dress is flowy, flippy, and swirly — very lightweight. I added a white necklace and some earrings. When I got on the bus, I sat in the front, with a black Santa Claus (without the beard but all the Santa curves) next to me. He smiled, and said, “You look very nice today.” I did a quick glance down to see if any cleavage was showing. It wasn’t and smiled a Thank You to him.
A hefty woman, facing us from the seat across the aisle, said something. I don’t know what she said but since she had the body of a professional wrestler with BIG muscles, I wasn’t game to ask her to repeat it. When I glanced to the back of the bus, at least 8 guys were grinning from ear to ear with nodding heads and some eye rolls. Wonder what she said? My Santa friend and wrestler then got into a sharp exchange and I heard words like, jealous, flirting, mind your own…..and so forth. My stop was coming up and I pulled the cord. As the bus slowed down, Santa leaned across and said, “Don’t tell your husband I said this, but you do look really nice.” I whispered, “Thanks.” When I stepped down off the bus, I put sunglasses on, stood up straight and started humming Pretty Woman. The ride was certainly worth the $1.00 fare.
Love your story Evelyn. I agree well worth the $10 bus fare especially when it makes you feel so good.
I finally figured out how to get onto your site. You need to use a laptop. For some reason it doesn’t work when you google from your mobile phone.
