ANTELOPE CANYON

Antelope Canyon is like a pink sandstone maze without any straight walls..

Our family decided not to exchange Christmas gifts this year but do a trip together instead. We were all a little jittery about how this would work out.

Would we snarp at each other? Growl and argue? But we decided on a tour out of Las Vegas to various national parks and places of interest.

Antelope Canyon was one of the stops. I was hesitant because I wasn’t sure that I could do the stairs, the ladders, the crevices, and rocks on the ground. But I gritted my teeth and with the help of my sons, one in front, one behind completed the tour and it was surreal. I felt like was in inside a beautiful sculpture or crawling behind the canvas in a pastel painting,

Antelope Canyon has no straight walls. None. The upright sides are curved and I can’t compare it to anything. Curves, smooth, various shades of pink. If the canyon was a woman, it would be beyond voluptuous. It would be folded, rounded, plush fat,

The floor of the canyon was pink sand and a bit slippery. I know because I spent a lot of time staring at it with each step, pausing to look around at every few feet. One son helped me in front by holding my hand for support, the second stood guard at the rear. At some places, my shoe was wider than the opening. And some spots had a clearing to turn around and look at other people

It’s a good thing I stayed upright without a fall or slip resulting in a broken limb because it would take hours to get me out. The opening above us to the sky was very narrow and small. The wisp of blue sky above added to the beauty of the experience.

But the views—–every angle, every curve, every perspective was a piece of art. Any of it could be captured on a canvas for an amazing and piece of wonderous work. The geographic gooblygook was of no interest, but the beauty……. At times I felt like I was in a blush colored compact of face powder, wallowing in the shades of pink surrounding me.

A definite bucket list MUST for an awe-inspiring experience.

Antelope Canyon is worth a visit, for sure.
