Savannah Georgia

Barb and I spent a week in a charming hotel which felt more like a home in Southern Living than a Hilton hotel. This is the low country city of Savannah.

SAVANNAH IS:

Twenty two squares, each with huge oak trees dripping with grey-green moss;

Friendly people who give strangers sincere smiles and say Hello;

Pride in old homes meticulously maintained;

Art, art, art. Some of the best art schools in America and SCAD, Savannah College of Art and Design;

Bourbon and wine sold in coffee shops as well as the corner bars;

Sweets, sweets, sweets; pecans, pralines, pasteries, and candy shops everywhere. I can usually make it past these but grow weak and succumb at the last one. I know it has a lot of free samples.

And good food. Barb is a ‘foodie’ and led me through some extraordinary culinary experiences.

Yes, I’m coming back to this unique city. But having said that, I must admit that I never got out to the tidal basins, the marshes, the barrier islands, or suburbs. We explored the downtown historic area. But, definitely, I will come back. It is a great city.
