You’re the first!!!

Jenny, you figured out how to post. Hooray, You are the first reply post. Great. Share you info with the book club. Also, I have a terrific book recommendation. It is so good that I read it twice. And it tells a story then curls back onto itself to complete the cycle. The title is No Two Persons. I recommended it to my rellies and they loved it, too.

  1. Hi Ask Abigail. What do we older women do when the technology and the service providers assume we have been using technology all our lives and we don’t get enough information. The language and assumption of prior knowledge makes navigating through a technological world mind boggling at times. I was 40 before I touched a computer. Now I am 75 and have used ChatGPT. I am constantly learning and struggling, but sometimes I yearn for the human interaction. The bank tellers, check out chicks, telephone operators, travel agents and service station attendants who fill up your car and then check your oil and water.
BTW I am a virgin blog user. You are my first.🙏

  2. Kandy, glad you posted.

    Yes, this is a concern.

I take your point. So much digital knowledge is assumed. And many sites have unclear instructions which apparently were cleared to the designer of the site, but not clear to everyone. Very annoying.

Today I am ill, possibly Covid , and I spent 40 minutes on line, trying to cancel two medical appointments this week. I finally left a verbal message on one site and an email message on the other. At no point during this time did I talk to a real human.

Fortunately my GP still uses humans to answer the phone so I was able to get medical advice. Interestingly, she advised me to do nothing until I feel better (and have more patience!),

However, now I have to struggle with one lab and one hospital which don’t answer their phones to re-schedule online.

It is efficient for the organisation but not sure how many stuff ups there are with the digital system. Maybe in the long run, it would be cheaper to have a real person available. Certainly it is the patient.

America is very bad about this, especially. The human touch is gone over here!!

And, does everyone have a computer?

The digital world is convenient in many areas, but not always.
